Blackboard Learn 9.1 Training

To help facilitate a smooth instructor transition to Blackboard Learn 9.1, from 11SUM through 11FAL, Blackboard will provide parallel CE 8.0 and Learn 9.1 systems to allow online-based instructors flexibility, if needed, on when they move their online-based courses to Learn 9.1. Please note: beginning 12WIN, all online-based courses will be delivered only in Learn 9.1. Instructors have two Blackboard Learn 9.1 training options available to choose from:

The first training option available to instructors during 11SUM – 11FAL is to make an appointment with either Connie Hagar, the Open Campus technology trainer at x8098, as she makes her regular weekly visits to each college, or with one of the online-based instructor mentors (see item # 2 in 11SUM administrivia) that will have all received training from Blackboard to assist instructors with transitioning to Learn 9.1.

The second training option available is to contact Bianca Vidales at x8195 (after 1pm), to enroll in an online Blackboard Learn 9.1 session that is taught by Connie Hagar. You'll have a full calendar month (beginning each month) to complete the online module and should plan to allocate about five to six hours during the month to complete it.

Flex credit is available for instructors participating in any of the three training options but you will need to sign in and log your hours. Supplemental/refresher Learn 9.1 training materials, developed by both Blackboard and Open Campus, are available by logging into Blackboard and, under "Course List," click on "Open Campus Administrivia and Updates" class.

Again, instructors will have through 11FAL to complete their Learn 9.1 training via one of the three training options described above. Unless specifically advised by instructors to do otherwise, as instructors complete their Learn 9.1 training, Open Campus will automatically transfer all their online-based courses to Learn 9.1 beginning with the start of the following term.

Blackboard Academy

Instructors who plan to teach in any mode using Blackboard (online, hybrid or web-enhanced) must complete the RCCD online Blackboard Academy. In addition to basic blackboard instruction, the Blackboard Academy covers administrative policies and procedures for online instruction as well as additional district services available to distance education instructors.

You will have one month from the Blackboard Academy start date to complete the training. A reservation is required. If you have previously attended a Hybrid/Blackboard Academy, you do not need to attend another. You will receive 8 hours of FLEX credit, but you must complete the entire session; partial credit will not be given.

If you do not have an RCCD email address, you need to get one. Future communications from Open Campus are only sent to those who are in the RCCD email system. Please contact your Instructional Department Specialist for more information about obtaining an RCCD email address. If you are offering a web-enhanced course without Blackboard, you do not have to attend the Blackboard Academy. Just contact Mark Knight for assistance with setting up a web site.

Please note: Blackboard training is for full-time and adjunct instructors only. All Blackboard Academy session begin on the first day of the month and end on the last day of the month.

To reserve your spot, please fill out the Blackboard Academy enrollment form.

Please do not sign up unless you are sure you can participate and complete your training. While these are online, we are limiting them so that our presenters can respond to questions in a timely manner. It isn’t fair to others when you reserve a spot and do not follow through.
