Blackboard Training

Open Campus offers face-to-face Blackboard training on all three campuses throughout the the year. Information on training will be made available via the District email. Please contact our District Technologies Trainer, Connie Hagar if you would like to make an appointment.

If you prefer to learn Blackboard via Open Campus online tutorials, you are in luck! There are many tutorials available on the Blackboard Tutorials page. There are also two pdf CE 8 manuals available. The CE8 instructor/Designer Upgrade Guide (412 KB) and the CE8 Instructor/Designer Reference (2.1 MB).

Blackboard Academy

Instructors who plan to teach in any mode using Blackboard (online, hybrid or web-enhanced) must complete the RCCD online Blackboard Academy (formerly known as “Hybrid Academy” and delivered in a face-to-face format). These sessions are now online and are based on Riverside Community College District’s policies and procedures. You will have one month from the starting date during which you would have to complete the training. A reservation is required. If you have previously attended a Hybrid/Blackboard Academy, you do not need to attend another. You will receive 8 hours of FLEX credit, but you must complete the entire session; partial credit will not be given.

If you do not have an RCCD email address, you need to get one. Future communications from Open Campus are only sent to those who are in the RCCD email system. Please contact your Instructional Department Specialist for more information on obtaining an RCCD email address If you are offering a web-enhanced course without Blackboard, you do not have to attend the Blackboard Academy. Just contact Mark Knight for assistance with setting up a web site.

Please note: Blackboard training is for full-time and adjunct instructors only. Here is what we are offering:

2009: Sept 16, Oct 14, Nov 18, Dec 9
2010: Jan 12, Feb 17, Mar 17, Apr 21, May 19, June 1

To reserve your spot, email the following information to Mary Parker:

  • Your first name, middle initial and last name as listed in Datatel. (If you don’t know what this is, please contact your Instructional Department Specialist. Once completed, a notation is made in Datatel indicating that you are eligible to teach online-based courses.)
  • The session date you wish to attend.
  • If you have an upcoming class using Blackboard/WebCT, what is it?
  • If you do not have a class scheduled, what is your discipline?
  • Who is your department chair?
Please do not sign up unless you are sure you can participate and complete your training. While these are online, we are limiting them so that our presenters can respond to questions in a timely manner. It isn’t fair to others when you reserve a spot and do not follow through.
