Required Browser Settings for Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer Logo If you are taking an Online, Hybrid, or Web-enhanced course through Open Campus and you are using the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser, YOU MUST APPLY THESE REQUIRED BROWSER SETTINGS.

Required Browser Settings for Netscape/Mozilla

If you are taking an Online, Hybrid, or Web-enhanced course through Open Campus and you are using the Netscape web browser or the Mozilla web browser, YOU MUST APPLY THESE REQUIRED BROWSER SETTINGS.

Required Browser Settings for America Online

AOL Logo If you are taking an Online, Hybrid, or Web-enhanced course through Open Campus and you are using the AOL web browser to access your course. You should be aware that we have noticed occasional compatibility issues with WebCT.

For this reason we STRONGLY recommend that you minimize your AOL browser and use either Netscape or Internet Explorer with your course. Be sure that you apply the Required Browser Settings (see above).

If you are using AOL and Internet Explorer/Netscape to access your class you may need to perform the following steps to prevent AOL from "timing out" and disconnecting you from the internet:

Open a Private Chat in AOL

In the AOL Browser, select the "People" menu.
In the People menu, select "Start Your Own Chat".
In "Start Your Own Chat" panel, select the "Private Chat" option.
When prompted, enter a name.
Select "GO Chat".
Minimize your AOL browser and open Netscape or Internet Explorer.
Log into your class using Netscape or Internet Explorer.

Popular Web Browser Plug-ins

Some WebCT courses use browser plug-ins. To view portions of these sites, you may need one or more of the plug-ins below. Browsers will generally automatically download any plug-in required by a particular page.

Windows Media Player	RealPlayer	QuickTime

Some WebCT courses use video or audio that can be played with Windows Media Player.	Some WebCT courses use video or audio that can be played with RealPlayer.	Some WebCT courses use Quicktime video.
Shockwave Player	Flash Player	Adobe Reader

Adobe Shockwave is used in some WebCT courses for interactive quizzes, animations, and activities.	Adobe Flash is used in some WebCT courses for interactive quizzes, animations, and activities.	Adobe PDF documents are used in some WebCT courses and websites.
Java - Sun Microsystems

Java version (1.4.x - 1.5.x) is required for some WebCT components. Some WebCT courses use Java technology in course content. For Mac OS X, download and install the latest version of Java for Mac OS X. For Mac OS 9 and earlier, download and install the MRJ 2.2.5
