Check Your Browser Version
WebCT 4.1 requires Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. Please see our Requirements Page for more information on browser versions, including downloads.
- Windows Users:
- When you open Internet Explorer, click the "Help" menu, then select "About Internet Explorer"
- Macintosh Users:
- (OS 9) When you open Internet Explorer, click the "Apple" menu, then select "About Internet Explorer"
- (OS X) When you open Internet Explorer, click the "Explorer" menu, then select "About Internet Explorer"
Required Cache Settings
- Windows Users:
- When you open Internet Explorer, click the "Tools" menu.
- In the Tools menu, select "Internet Options".
- In the Internet Options panel, select the "Settings" Button from the "Temporary Internet Options" section.
- In the Settings panel, click the "Every visit to the page" option.
- In the Settings panel, click the "OK" button.

- Macintosh Users:
Mac OS 9- When you open Internet Explorer, click the "Edit" menu.
- In the Edit menu, select "Preferences".
- In the Preferences panel, select the "Advanced" option from the "Web Browsers " section on the left-hand side.
- On the right-hand side of the preferences panel in the "Cache" section, select the "Always" option for the "Update pages:" setting.
Mac OS X- When you open Internet Explorer, click the "Explorer" menu.
- In the Explorer menu, select "Preferences".
- In the Preferences panel, select the "Advanced" option from the "Web Browsers " section on the left-hand side.
- On the right-hand side of the preferences panel in the "Cache" section, select the "Always" option for the "Update pages:" setting.
Required Java Settings
Please note: Windows XP users may need to download and install version 1.5.0_07 of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
- Windows Users:
- Enable Java in your browser:
- Select Tools then choose Internet Options. The Internet Options screen appears.
- Select the Security tab.
- Click the Custom Level button. The Security Settings screen appears.
- Look for the Java Permissions section.
- If the section does not exist, continue to the next step.
- If the section exists, choose Low, Medium or High safety
- Click OK. The Internet Options screen appears.
- Click OK.
- Switch to the Sun Java Runtime Environment:
- Open the Windows Control Panel by clicking Start > Settings > Control Panel. The Control Panel appears.
- Locate and double-click Java or Java Plug-in. The Java Control Panel appears.
- Look for the Browser tab.
- If the Browser tab does not exist, skip the rest of this section.
- If the Browser tab exists, click the Browser tab.
- Under Settings, select the checkbox next to your browser.
- Click Apply to save your settings.
- Restart the browser.
- Enable Java in your browser:
- Macintosh Users:
Mac OS 9Please note: Mac OS 9 users may need to download and install Mac OS Runtime for Java- When you open Internet Explorer, click the "Edit" menu.
- In the Edit menu, select "Preferences".

- On the right-hand side of the preferences panel in the "Java Options" section, select the "Enable Java " option and the "Log Java output" option.

Required JavaScript Settings
- Windows Users:
- Select Tools then choose Internet Options. The Internet Options screen appears.
- Select the Security tab.
- Click the Custom Level button. The Security Settings screen appears.
- Scroll down to Scripting, and enable Active Scripting and Scripting of Java Applets.
- Click OK. The Internet Options screen appears.
- Click OK.

Pop-up Blocker Settings
- Windows XP Service Pack 2 Users:
Some WebCT content requires that you DO NOT block Pop-up ads. The following instructions will allow you to block all pop-up ads EXCEPT WebCT content:
- When you open Internet Explorer, click the "Tools" menu.
- In the Tools menu, select "Pop-up Blocker" >> "Pop-up Blocker Settings... ".
- In the Pop-up Blocker Settings Panel, enter "riverside.webct.com" in the "Address of Web site to allow" field.
- Click the "Add" button. Observe that "riverside.webct.com" has been added to "Allowed sites"
- Click the "Close" button.
