About The Online Skills Workshop
Beginning Fall of 2005, prospective online course students who have not already completed an RCC online course with a grade of “C” or better will not be allowed to register for fully online classes until they complete a brief Online Skills Workshop. The workshop can be completed in a few minutes. Once you have successfully completed the workshop, you will be cleared to register for online courses.
Why do I have to do this?
No matter how smart you are, how hard you study, or how much you know about the topic, your grade in online courses depends on your ability to submit your assignments for grading. Research shows that online students who do not possess basic computer and Internet skills such as logging into a course, submitting assignment files, taking online quizzes, and using email and discussion boards are far less likely to succeed. The Online Skills Workshop allows you to quickly demonstrate that you possess the computer and Internet skills needed to be successful in online courses.
What if I’ve already completed an online class at RCC prior to Summer 2005?
If you have successfully completed an online course at Riverside Community College with a grade of “C” or better prior to Fall 2005, your record has already been cleared and you may register for online courses immediately.
What if I’ve already completed an online class at another college or university?
If you successfully completed an online course at another accredited college or university, please call the matriculation hotline (951-222-8808) for directions. However, since successful verification will not be immediate, you are encouraged to simply complete the short Online Skills Workshop located at.
Does this apply to Hybrid or Web-Enhanced courses?
No. Hybrid and Web-Enhanced courses involve on-campus meetings where you can learn necessary procedures face-to-face. The Online Skills Workshop requirement applies only to completely online classes.
